Jan Bochmann (1972) was born in Karl-Marx-Stadt in the then German Democratic Republic. From 1993 to 2000 he studied architecture at Dresden University of  Technology in Germany and in 1997 he spent a semester as a guest student at Tampere University of Technology in Finland. During his studies he followed various internships at building sites and in architectural studios in Chemnitz, Dresden and Berlin.

Jan has lived in the Netherlands since 2001. Initially, he worked for Baneke van der Hoeven Architecten in Amsterdam for two years. From 2003 to 2006 he was employed as design architect by Claus en Kaan Architecten in Rotterdam and Amsterdam and in 2006 he became project leader at Dittmar Architecten in Amsterdam.

Jan is an independent architect since 2009. From 2009 to 2012 he ran a joint practice as Dittmar Bochmann Architecten and in 2012 he established Jan Bochmann Architecten.

In addition to his studio, Jan Bochmann is engaged in architectural education. He has been a guest lecturer at the Faculty of Architecture at Delft University of Technology, a part-time tutor in architectural and interior design at Jan des Bouvrie College in Amsterdam and a project supervisor for Creative Urbans project. On a regular basis he holds guided architectural tours in Amsterdam.
